David Raymond Langenhorst

November 2, 1950 - June 29, 2015

Larchwood, Iowa -- David Langenhorst, age 64, of Larchwood, died Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 3, 2015 at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2nd from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church.

David Raymond Langenhorst was born November 2, 1950 in LeMars, Iowa, the son of Harold “Demps” and Barbara (Full) Langenhorst. Dave grew up in Hospers, Iowa, and he and his family moved to Larchwood, Iowa, during his junior year in high school. He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School and later attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, for auto body. Dave served in the Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975. On September 26, 1970, he was united in marriage to Donna Koch at the Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, Iowa.

Dave was self-employed for a time and owned and operated Dave’s Collision and Repair. He worked for Sioux Falls Ford for a few years and Billion Automotive until cancer caused him to go on disability. He was a member of The Church of St. Mary, Knights of Columbus, Larchwood EMS for several years and the Larchwood Fire Department for forty-one years. Dave enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping & golfing. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Dave is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Donna Langenhorst of Larchwood, Iowa; two sons, Deric (Rachel) Langenhorst and Damon (Jody) Langenhorst both of Larchwood, Iowa; five grandchildren, Alex, Kalyn, Mason, Shay and Ella; four siblings, Carrol (Janet) Langenhorst of Newton, Kansas, Linda (Dennis) Kotz of McGregor, Iowa, Lori (Larry) Summers of Larchwood, Iowa, and Alan (Connie) Langenhorst of Centennial, CO; brother-in-law, Greg Nelson of Sebeka, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Shirley Nelson and Debbie Langenhorst.
