Larchwood, Iowa - Verlyn “Glenn” McKenney, age 78, of Larchwood, died Friday, June 26, 2015 at Rock Rapids Health Care Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 30th at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood, Iowa, with Pastor Kelly Volk officiating.

Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, June 29th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood.

Verlyn Glenn McKenney was born December 6, 1936 in Sioux County, Iowa. At an early age his family moved to a farm between Larchwood & Inwood, Iowa. He attended country school and worked on the family farm.

On October 17, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Gulk in Larchwood. Together they lived and farmed south of Larchwood and in 1991 they moved to their current acreage west of Larchwood.

Glenn & Carol started a 3-hole golf course in their back yard, which eventually inspired the Larchwood Community to develop the Meadow Acres Golf Course. Throughout the years, Glenn worked as a greenskeeper at Meadow Acres, Estherville Country Club, and most recently Beaver Creek Golf Course.

In 1992, Glenn’s wife, Carol died unexpectedly, after 34 years of marriage.

Glenn enjoyed farming, playing cards, the outdoors, and working at golf courses. He will be remembered as a good man and a good father with a great sense of humor. If you were fortunate, you could hear him explain “McKenney Logic”.

He is survived by three children, Rory (Teresa) McKenney of Larchwood, Iowa, Robie (Steve) Horsman of Luverne, Minnesota, and Randy (Pam) McKenney of Larchwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matt (Kelsey)McKenney, Jennifer (Cody) Roth, Curtis Horsman, Kally (Will) Walker, Bill (Rachel) Horsman, Tyler McKenney, and Ethan (Angela) McKenney; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Carol Jean) McKenney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Ilene McKenney of Inwood, Iowa, and Karen Viereck of Larchwood, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Robert Gulk of Kernville, California; A very special friend, Cleone DeBruin of Larchwood, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Dorothy McKenney; his wife, Carol McKenney; and two brothers, Norman and Kenneth McKenney.
