Life Legacy

Larchwood, Iowa - Donald Bauer, age 92, of Larchwood, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 6th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, with full military honors by the Flessner American Legion Post No. 561 of Larchwood.

Visitation will be Friday, June 5th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church.

Donald was born on February 23, 1923 to William C. and Ella (Senner) Bauer in Fayette County, Iowa. Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving time twice in Japan. On June 4, 1954 he was united in marriage to Bernadette Kramer at St. Mary’s Church in Larchwood.

Donald worked for John Morrell & Company in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1985, after 33 years of service. Some of his most valuable possessions in life were his faith, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family and friends. He was always noted for taking special care of his cars, his love for playing cards, and his kindness and patience.

Donald is survived by two sons, Daryl (Carolyn) Bauer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mark (Maureen) Bauer of Rapid City, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Carrie Carr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Andrew (Abbey) Bauer of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Chris (Tracy) Bauer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Sarah Bauer of Rapid City, South Dakota; four great-grandchildren, Briggs, Bennett, Chloe and Brinley Bauer: two brothers, Clarence (Darlene) Bauer of Brookings, South Dakota, and Harold (Phyllis) Bauer of Flandreau, South Dakota; two brothers-in-law, Ronald (Arla) Kramer of Larchwood, Iowa, and Leonard Kramer of Rock Rapids, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Roger) Harman of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Betty Kramer of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and many other extended family.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife of fifty-seven years, Bernadette Bauer; a sister, Bernice Wescott; and a brother, Delbert Bauer.
