Florence Hecht, 85, of Larchwood died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.

Services were Saturday at United Church of Christ, Larchwood, with interment in Larchwood Cemetery.

Florence Hackbarth was born Feb. 12, 1919, at Denver, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Emma (Hein) Hackbarth. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1937. She received a teaching certificate from Iowa Normal Training at Cedar Falls. She taught in a country school near Larchwood one year.

On May 17, 1941, she married Ernest Hecht at South Sioux City. They farmed near Klondike until moving to a farm near Inwood. In 1949, they moved to a farm northeast of Larchwood. For several years, she wrote a column "Back Then" for the West Lyon Focus.

Her husband died April 26, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Lee of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. James (Noreen) Cole of Burnsville, Minn.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Floyd and Harold.
