She graduated from high school in Hudson and then married her high school sweetheart, Samuel Halma on June 17, 1959 at Peace Lutheran Church. Sam and Judy lived on an acreage near Inwood, Iowa, after they were first married, then moved into Inwood, where they spent the remainder of their married life. Judy’s Christian faith and her family were her priorities in life. She enjoyed cooking and baking and spent several years preparing food at local restaurants. She was an especially good pie baker and potato salad maker. Judy and Sam loved gardening and enjoyed sharing their produce with others. Judy was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who demonstrated faith, patience and kindness throughout her life.

She compassionately cared for Sam throughout his cancer diagnosis until his death on June 7, 2006. She was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood.

After her cancer progressed, Judy moved into the Good Samaritan Society – George in George, Iowa, where she was lovingly cared for by the staff working there, as well as the Lyon County Hospice staff.
