Doon, Iowa - William “Bill” J. Keizer, 89, of Doon, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with Pastor Steve Swenson officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Doon, Iowa.

Bill was born April 2, 1925, at rural Perkins, Iowa to Joe and Jennie (Hommes) Keizer. He graduated from the Doon High School in 1942. Bill married Grace Niemeyer on August 26, 1948, near Doon. Together they farmed northwest of Hull. Bill’s favorite part of farming was the custom windrowing and combining he did for many of the area farmers with his John Deere equipment.

After retiring together to Doon in 1985 at the age of 60, Bill drove truck for Darwin Rus and Farmer’s Elevator. Finding an ad in the Sioux City paper of Verlyn Blehms, an Oklahoma farmer wanting help with the wheat run harvest, another friendship was made between two John Deere farmers. He also ran combine for Pete Horstman for many harvest seasons.

He also worked at the Doon Sawmill and worked alongside Andy Teunissen restoring the Doon School/Community Center. Bill enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the visits he had with them. Grace passed away on August 11, 2009. Bill became a resident at Whispering Heights on June 8, 2010. Bill was a member of the First Reformed Church in Doon.

Bill is survived by his sons, Jerry (Angie) Keizer and Henry Keizer all of Doon; daughter, Harriet Green of Hull, Iowa; grandchildren, Sheila (Brad) Stiles of Iowa City, Iowa; Shelly (Daren) Streett of Cary, NC; Sue (Jim) Goebel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kara (Chris) Van Meeteren of Hull, Iowa; Paul (April) Keizer of Sioux Falls, SD; Jeremy (Steph) Keizer of Brandon, SD; and Sterling Keizer of Rapid City, SD; great-grandchildren, Regan Stiles, Willa Streett, Stella, Avery, and Gabriel Goebel, Kaylee and Whitney Anderson, and Jace Van Meeteren, Jamison and Griffin Keizer, Kinsley and Peyton Keizer; brothers, Dick (Theo) Keizer of Doon, John (Jen) Keizer of Sheldon, and Jim Keizer of Doon; and sister, Fenna Winter of Rock Valley. He is also survived by two sisters-in-laws, Helene Niemeyer of Doon and Samantha Niemeyer of George.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace; son-in-law, Jerry Green; brothers-in-law, Fritz Winter, Bill (Hester) Niemeyer, Gerrit Niemeyer, and Henry Niemeyer; and sister-in-law, Pat Keizer.
