George, Iowa - Arnold Techen, age 77 of George, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 surrounded by family at his home in George.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26th at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull, Iowa, with Rev. Robert Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 25th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Arnold Henry Techen was born December 22, 1936 in Edna, Iowa, the son of Arlie and Ella (Breuer) Techen. At the age of two his family moved to a farm east of Doon, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Doon High School in 1955. He worked for area farmers until entering the U.S. Navy in 1956. He served the USS Colonial as a Machinist Mate. He received his honorable discharge on June 2, 1958 and returned home to farm near Doon.

Arnold was united in marriage on June 26, 1959 to Marlene Anderson at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull, Iowa. They lived in Rock Rapids for one year while he worked as welder at Landman Machine in Rock Rapids. In 1961 they moved near Doon where they owned and operated Techen trucking until 1966.

In 1964 they moved to a farm southwest of George where they farmed. In addition, Arnold worked at Matlock Hog buying station from 1966 to 2010. In 1985, Arnold and Marlene moved to town, where Arnold drove feed truck part-time for George Elevator from 1998 to 2013.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Hull, Iowa, where he served as an Elder and member of the Lyon and Sioux County Pork Producers Association. He attended the Navy reunions for many years. He loved being outside, spending time with his grandchildren, camping at Lake Okoboji and playing pinochle. He also enjoyed winters in Georgia with in-laws, Dale and Jan Schulte.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene Techen; seven children, Pam (Kent) Keenan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lori (Bill) Rikkers of Hartford, South Dakota, Diane Kannegieter of Aurelia, Iowa, Randy (Sue) Techen of Sheldon, Iowa, Becky (Dean) Hilbrands of Remsen, Iowa, Ryan Techen (special friend, Marce’ia Brown) of Larchwood, Iowa and Aaron (Katie) Techen of Spencer, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene (Al) Sohl, Elaine (Ken) Sohl, both of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Louise (Ruben) Winter of Sheldon, Iowa; one brother, Eldon (Shirley) Techen of Sheldon, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Terry (Jo) Anderson of Hull, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Jan (Dale) Schulte of Kingston, Georgia, Judy (Art) Kooi, and Ruth Anderson, both of Hull, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Techen; his parents, Arlie and Ella Techen; parents-in-law, Elmer and Hannah Anderson; a brother-in-law, John Anderson; a sister-in-law, Marion Reyelts; and two nephews, Rodney Winter and Kevin Sohl.
