Biography--

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Mary Huisman age 64 of Rock Rapids, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Marsha Sangel officiating.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Harris, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 16th from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Mary Helen Huisman was born February 9, 1950 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Harriet (Hass) Immens. She was raised in Sibley, Iowa, and attended Sibley Community Schools, graduating in 1972. After graduation she was the School Nurse at Central Lyon Community Schools in Rock Rapids and later worked at Hope Heaven in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Throughout the years she earned her nurse’s aide certificate, LPN and later a RN. She worked at various nursing homes in the area, Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, Worthington Regional Hospital as a Charge Nurse and most recently Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota, as a MDS Coordinator.

Mary was united in marriage to Kurt Huisman on February 9, 1991 at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock rapids. She enjoyed horses, dancing, music, flowers and visiting with people. Most of all Mary adored her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with her family. Also, Mary and Kurt hosted 18 different foreign exchange students. In 2010 due to failing health Mary stopped working and courageously battled her illness for the next 4 years, with her husband, Kurt by her side.

She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Kurt Huisman of Rock Rapids, Iowa; her two children, Eric Jacobsma of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Amy Prins of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son-in-law, Jon Arens of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; ten grandchildren, Courtney and Emma Jacobsma, Morgan and Katie Leloux, Mattea, Lashae and Asher Prins, and Jenika, Aiden and Aislynn Arens; one great-grandchildren, Marshal Mertes; and many other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Harriet Immens; and her daughter, Lindsey Arens; one sister, Rethal (husband, Leo) Feauto; nephew, Rodney Feauto.
