June 6, 1932 - September 13, 2014

Inwood, Iowa - Dick Veltkamp, 82, of Inwood, died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre. A family prayer service will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with burial to follow at Valley View Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at First Reformed Church, Inwood, Iowa with Rev. Rob Horstman officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6-7:30 pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home at Inwood, Iowa. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Dick was born June 6, 1932 at Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of Albert and Rolena (Moorlag) Veltkamp. He attended the Rock Valley Christian School through 8th grade. Dick married Sylvia Woudstra on June 15, 1951. They lived in Sanborn, Iowa, where Dick owned and operated the Sanborn Body Shop. Dick and Sylvia lived and worked in Florida, California, Colorado, and then Inwood, Iowa.

He has always enjoyed restoring antique cars. Dick was active in church serving as elder and deacon, enjoyed spending the winters in Florida for the last fifteen years, and most of all, loved being with his children, grand and great-grandchildren. Dick went to the Rock Rapids Health Centre on August 26 for rehab after a sudden illness.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Sylvia of Inwood; three children: Don (Jane) Veltkamp of Yankton, South Dakota, Sheryl (Larry) Boeve of Doon, Iowa, and Jay (Alejandra) Veltkamp of San Jose, Costa Rica; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Henrietta Haak of Hills, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Gerrit (Arlis) Vande Kamp of George, Iowa, Al (June) Woudstra of Orange City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Sally De Groot of Hull, Iowa, Marilyn Kroeze of Orange City, Iowa, Joyce Vande Griend of Hull, Iowa, and Vernelle Kuyper of Orange City, Iowa.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rolena; sisters, Grace (Peter) Jacobsma, and Jean Vande Kamp; brothers-in-law, Gerald Haak, John De Groot, Gary Kroeze, LeRoy Woudstra, Bernie Vande Griend, and Percy Vander Tuig.
