DEATH NOTICE:

(September 10, 1936 - August 21, 2014)

George, Iowa - Edgar Van Tubergen, age 77, of George, died on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014, at the Hope Reformed Church rural George with Rev. Dave Poppen officiating. Private burial will be at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, Iowa.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 24th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Edgar Van Tubergen

George, Iowa - Edgar Van Tubergen, age 77, of George, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m.Monday, August 25, 2014, at the Hope Reformed Church rural George with Rev. Dave Poppen officiating. Private burial will be at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, Iowa.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 24th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Edgar Lee Van Tubergen was born on September 10, 1936, at Ashton, Iowa, the son of Edward and Susan (Harmlink) Van Tubergen. Ed grew up on a farm near Matlock, Iowa. At five years of age he moved with his family to a farm near Newkirk, Iowa. He attended Newkirk Grade School and also graduated from Newkirk High School. Ed continued his education at Northwestern Jr. College in Orange City, Iowa. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1961.

He was united in marriage to Betty Joyce Scholten on June 5, 1968. They made their home in George, Iowa, where Ed worked for Sudenga Industries from 1962 until his retirement in 2001. He was a devoted employee and treasured the many friends he made at Sudenga. After his retirement he continued to inquire about the many friends that still worked there and was interested in the different aspects of the business.

He loved to joke with people and fondly recounted stories of playing pranks on friends. He also loved to read, listen to Classical music, and watch the Iowa Hawkeyes on TV. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church. This past Thursday afternoon, Ed died at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of seventy-seven.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of George, Iowa; daughter, Nancy and her husband, Charles Eiten of Jeffersonville, Indiana; son, Bradley and his wife, Ashley Van Tubergen of George, Iowa; along with two grandchildren, Ellen and Benjamin Eiten.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Johanna Hatfield; Wilmina Miller and Jeanette Van Tubergen; and brother, Gerald Van Tubergen.
