Earl Everett Schwenck – January 29, 1929 – December 7, 2010

Sioux Falls - Earl E. Schwenck, 81, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by interment with full military honors at St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM Thursday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends beginning at 5:30 PM followed by a Liturgical Wake Service at 6:30 PM.

Earl was born January 29, 1929 in Sioux Falls. He married Audrey Bruggeman on June 6, 1955 in Larchwood, IA. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Earl worked for John Morrell & Co. for 23 years.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Schwenck, Sioux Falls; 6 children, Bruce Schwenck, Mitchell, SD, Joni Reiffenberger and her husband, Ray, Sioux Falls, Bill Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Dan Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Dave Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Sue Salter and her husband, Mark, Sioux Falls; and 6 grandchildren, Jessie Muth and her husband, Tyler, Ali Reiffenberger, Christina, Sophia, Julia, and Jack Salter.

Earl Everett Schwenck, son of Harry and Leota (Cunningham) Schwenck, was born January 29, 1929, in Sioux Falls. Earl grew up in Lester, Iowa, and following high school, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Earl was a seagoing sailor and served three years of his enlistment aboard the USS Boxer during the Korean War.

Following his honorable discharge, Earl moved to Sioux Falls where he attended Augustana College and graduated in 1955 with a bachelorıs degree. He was united in marriage with Audrey Bruggeman on June 6, 1955, in Larchwood, Iowa.

The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. They were charter members at St. Lambertıs before joining Christ the King Parish.

Following college, Earl worked for Champlin Oil Company and operated a service station. He later joined John Morrell & Company where he worked in the companys order department. He retired from Morrellıs after 23 years of service. In retirement, Earl worked part-time for Rochester Armored Car for five years.

Earl had many interests including golf, bowling, card playing, and all kinds of sports. His favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees, and he rarely missed a chance to watch them play. Above all, Earl loved his family and the time spent with them. His wife, children and grandchildren were his delight.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Audrey Schwenck, Sioux Falls; their six children, Bruce Schwenck, Mitchell, SD, Joni Reiffenberger and her husband, Ray, Sioux Falls, Bill Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Dan Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Dave Schwenck, Sioux Falls, Sue Salter and her husband, Mark, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Jessie Muth and her husband, Tyler, Ali Reiffenberger, Christina, Sophia, Julia, and Jack Salter; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Earl’s parents are buried in Hillside Cemetery, Lester, Lyon, Iowa. His father died in 1932 and his mother remarried to Carl Campbell.
