Randy Mammenga

Funeral - Randy Mammenga of Rock Rapids Iowa, died Monday at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids. Chapel Hill Funeral Home of Sioux Falls is assisting the family.

Obituary for Randy Mammenga

Randy Mammenga was born on July 30, 1951 at Sibley, Iowa, the son of Louis and Verna (Schnepf) Mammenga. He grew up in Rock Rapids, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1969. Randy attended technical college in Sheldon.

Randy was drafted by the US Army in 1971. He returned to Rock Rapids after serving in the Army. He married Sue Kooiker in 1974 and they had a daughter, Melissa. They lived near Sheldon and Randy worked on the farm with his father-in-law for a few years. Following his divorce, Randy returned to Rock Rapids where he worked at Cayel Craft where he installed electrical systems for the rescue vehicles.

He was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing bass guitar with several bands over the years. He loved reading, visiting with friends and watching country-western and war movies.

Randy is survived by his mother, Verna Mammenga of Rock Rapids; two siblings, Steve Mammenga of Belle Forche, South Dakota, and Janet Smith of Rock Rapids; six nieces and nephews, Dave Mammenga, Bob Mammenga, Mike Mammenga, John Bechler, Jennifer Curradi and Jill Hightower; 13 great nieces and nephews; two great-great-nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father; his daughter, Melissa in 2002; a nephew; and several aunts and uncles; and a cousin.

Memorial service 1:00 pm Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in George, Iowa
