George, Iowa - Marlys Grotluschen age 88, of George, died Tuesday May 20, 2014 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA, with Reverend Paul Soderquist officiating. Private burial with family will take place prior to the service.

Visitation will be Friday, May 23rd from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Marlys Grotluschen age 88 of George, Iowa, died Tuesday May 20, 2014 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Marlys Grotluschen was born on January 6, 1926 in George, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Christine (Hilbrands) Ubbinga. She grew up in George and graduated from the George High School in 1943. That same year she was united in marriage to Erwin Grotluschen on October 8, 1943. The couple lived on the family farm west of George for a year then move into town. On July 24, 1969, Erwin passed away and Marlys began working at the George Public School as a secretary.

Marlys was an active member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and the community of George. She enjoyed playing cards, crafts, sewing, reading, cooking, baking and loved kids. She was known as “Little Grandma” by her grandchildren and the young kids in her neighborhood. Marlys will be greatly missed.

Marlys is survived by four children, Sherilyn Kix of Savage, Minnesota, Bob (Jane) Grotluschen of Boulder, CO, Lori (Mark) Bluml of Carroll, Iowa, and Glenn Grotluschen of Jefferson, Iowa; nine grandchildren, David (Pa) Kix, Sarah Kix and fiancé Aaron Neugebauer, Susie (Chris) Donahue, Anna (Joe) Bertagnolli, Karl (Julie) Grotluschen, Greta (Lucas) Elsbernd, Benn Bluml, Meredith (Nathan) Fetters and Luke (Rachel) Grotluschen; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly (Larry) Ackerman of Arvada, CO; sister-in-law, Norma Ubbinga of George, Iowa; brother-in-law, Don (Dixie) Grotluschen of George, IA; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Christine Ubbinga; husband, Erwin Grotluschen; daughter, Kristin; brother, Ronald Ubbinga; son-in-law, Fred Kix; and great-granddaughter, Georgie Donahue.
