Larchwood, Iowa - Donald A. Roemen, age 92 of Larchwood, died Monday May 12, 2014 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 16th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 15th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM; the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church.

Donald A. Roemen was born July 31, 1921 in Larchwood, Iowa. He was the son of Frank and Marie (Robbin) Roemen. He lived his entire life in Larchwood, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School. After graduation, Donald took a few post-graduate courses and then became a self-employed trucker. He began farming with his father and then leased land north of town. In 1960 he purchased the family farm and lived there until he retired. After retirement he was employed for many years by Grand Labs, and re-retired in his early 80’s. During his free time Donald enjoyed fishing, tinkering, woodworking and visiting his family and friends. When Donald was 90 he took a trip to Germany to see where his mother was born and visit her family.

Donald is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Helen; five daughters, Rose Marie (Dan) Conway of Sun City, Arizona; Kathleen (Joe) Robillard of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Eileen Roemen of Sun City, Arisona; Elaine (Vince) Fox of Chandler, Arizona, and Pat (Randy) Rowen of Omaha, Nebraska; three sons, Keith (Coleen) Roemen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Joel (Rochelle) Roemen of Sachse, Texas, and Tim Roemen of West Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by two sisters, Elfrieda “Kitty” Newsome of FL and Laverna O’Connell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In addition to his children he also had 23 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He also was loved by his many “favorite” nieces, nephews, fishing buddies and extended family members.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Larry, Guy and Bruce; grandson, Joshua Reetz; brothers, Henry, Herbert, Arnold and Ervin; and two siblings died in infancy.
