Rolland Edward Viereck “Rolly” was born April 15, 1930 at home near Larchwood, Iowa, to Edward and Ivy (Horn) Viereck. He graduated from Larchwood High School in 1947. He served in the Air Force as a Combat Engineer from 1949-1952. Upon his discharge, he farmed with his father.

On January 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Claussen. Together they had six children: Jan, Kim, Lisa, Nancy, Keith & Jason and the family made their home on a farm near Larchwood.

On December 5, 1975, he married Karen Gulk. Along with her three children, Amy, David & Lori, their union added another son, Mike. Rolly will be remembered for his sense of humor and tendency to tell tall tales. He was at times stubborn and opinionated and others a source of wisdom and understanding.

His younger years were spent farming and trucking. In his spare time he enjoyed piloting his own plane, hunting and golfing. Sundays were his “family” day. We treasure fond memories of countless stories, picnics, fishing, sledding, snowmobiling by the river or quiet days at home. In his later years, he loved visits from family and friends, reminiscing, playing cards and watching old TV shows.

Rolly is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughters, Jan (Greg) Koch, Kim (Greg Wehrkamp) Sehr of Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa (Tony) Snyders, Nancy (Brian) Van Veldhuizen; son, Michael (Jill) Viereck; daughter-in-law, Shari (Randall Holm) Viereck; step-daughter, Amy Snyders and step-son, David (Michele) Gulk all of Larchwood, IA; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Karen Hildring of Larchwood, IA; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jason and Keith Viereck; step-daughter, Lori Gulk; and brother-in-law, Edward Hildring.
