Obituary:

Alvord, Iowa - Delores E. Kock, 81, of Alvord, Iowa died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Sanford USD Medical Center after fighting a courageous battle with cancer and complications from cancer for the last 32 years. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord with Rev. Randy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Alvord. Visitation with family present will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Delores was born December 6, 1932, in Clark, South Dakota, the daughter of Samuel and Encie (Burch) McDowell. In 1950, Delores graduated with honors from Elkton High School. On December 2, 1951 she was united in marriage to Loren Kock in Elkton, South Dakota. Together they lived near Elkton until they moved to Alvord on December 2, 1959. While in Alvord, Delores was an active member in the community. She served on city council for many years and owned the café for over 15 years as well as owning the grocery store. Delores was also active at church having taught Sunday school for 30 years. Delores enjoyed bowling league, quilting, playing cards, and baking cakes for many weddings.

Delores is survived by her sons, Jeff (Sharmell) Kock and Bill (Deb) Kock all of Alvord, Iowa; daughter, Vicki (Steve) Herum of Rock Valley, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and their children, Jamison (Anna) Bjorklund and Isaac, Jared Bjorklund, Jordan (Steph) Bjorklund and Jase, Jarvis (Amber) Bjorklund, Jericka (Michael) Blankenship and Aiden, Andy (Megan) Kock and Jersey, Coulter, Maverick, and Kyla, Samantha Kock, Alyssa Kock, Kory Kock, and Rachel Herum; brother, Don (Karen) McDowell of Mesa, Aarizona; sister-in-laws, Fran McDowell of Anchorage, Alaska, Irene Koch of Brookings, South Dakota, and Shirley Jensen of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Virgil (Jane) Kock; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; daughter and son-in-law, Lori (Gary) Bjorklund; grandsons, Jacob Kock and Jon Bjorklund; brothers, Bill, Veldon, and Harold McDowell; and sister, Adell McKeown.
