Obituary:

Inwood, Iowa - George W. Burgers, 83, of Inwood, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Fellowship Village. A funeral service will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Christian Reformed Church in Inwood, with Rev. Sam Krikke officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood. George William Burgers was born November 11, 1929 on a farm near Klondike, Iowa, the son of George and Wilma (Zeilstra) Burgers. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then at age 14 moved to Rock Valley where he worked at Berner Machine Shop. George served in the U.S. Air Force October 12, 1949 through October 11, 1955.

George married the Love of his life, Marjorie Nell DeRuyter, on March 29, 1950 at Rock Valley. He worked at Burger's Blacksmith Shop at Rock Valley before farming NW of Inwood and working at Ron's Machinery and Faber Farm Equipment. George was a past deacon at Inwood Christian Reformed Church, a board member of the Inwood Christian School, and a Cadet leader. George enjoyed horses, helping out with farming including raking hay, fishing, and spending time with family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marge; son George D. (Helen Henrichs) Burgers, Inwood; daughter, Donna (David) Hoekstra of Hull, IA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Clark of Sioux Falls, SD, Grace Boeve of Luverne, MN, Wilma (Jim) Koedam of Doon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bertha Van Engelhoven, Nellie Van Den Hul, Tillie Berner Olson, Minnie Van Den Top; brothers, Weber and Neal Burgers.
