(February 6, 1937 - October 7, 2013)

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Vincent L. Schleusner Jr., age 76, of Rock Rapids, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, October 11th, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with Father Bruce Lawler as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Military honors will be given by Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960 VFW & Rex Strait Post No. 103 American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday, October 10th, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. There will be a Celebration of Life Vigil at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Vincent Louis Schleusner Jr. was born February 6, 1936 in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Vince and Edith (Bulechek) Schleusner. He graduated from Austin High School in 1955. After working at the Mayo Clinic for a few years, he moved to Aberdeen, SD where he received his anesthesia training at St. Luke’s School of Anesthesia, graduating in 1962. Vince was united in marriage to Patricia Grogg on September 15, 1962 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota.

They lived in Chamberlain, So. Dakota and Austin, Minnesota, prior to moving to Fort Polk, LA where Vince served in the United States Army for 2 years. When discharged, the family moved to Adrian, Minnesota. where Vince worked as Administrator and Anesthetist for several years. They lived in Texas for a short period prior to moving to Rock Rapids in 1972 where Vince worked at the local hospital as the Administrator and Anesthetist for 17 years, then as anesthetist only for the remaining years until he retired at age 65. Vince served on the Hospital Board and the School Board. He enjoyed going on vacation to Las Vegas, golf, playing bridge and spending weekends at the Lake. Vince passed away October 7, 2013. His greatest pleasure was spending time at his lake cottage and being with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat; his two sons, Jeff (Laura) Schleusner, and Dave (Marilee) Schleusner all of Rock Rapids, Iowa; their children, Natalie Schleusner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kendra Schleusner of Mankato, Minnesota, Angela Schleusner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary and Cole Schleusner of Iowa City, Iowa, and Devon and Seth Hendriksen of Rock Rapids, and his sister Bonnie Hans of Seattle, Washington.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and two infant sons.
