DEATH NOTICE:

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Sophie A. Smith, age 88 of Rock Rapids, died Saturday September 7, 2013 at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Jeff Poppinga officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Family will be receiving guests Tuesday September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock
Rapids, Iowa.

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Sophie A. Smith, age 88 of Rock Rapids, died Saturday September 7, 2013 at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids.

The family will be receiving guests Tuesday September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Sophie A. Smith was born April 15, 1925 in Flat Lake, Alberta, Canada, to Wasyl and Mary Dowhaniuk. She was raised and received her education in Flat Lake. On October 28, 1944 she was united in marriage to Luraine Smith in Edmonton, Alberta. The couple made their home in George, Iowa. To this union was born three children, Sharon, Sandra and Shiela. Sophie worked at several jobs over her lifetime but mostly she was a mom and homemaker. Her family was very important to her and she loved spending time with them, especially during the holidays.

Sophie loved to cook and bake for them. Sophie lived for eight years in Rock Rapids before failing health caused her to move to the Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Rock Rapids three years ago. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. This past Saturday, September 07, 2013 Sophie passed away at the age of 88.

She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Kim) Norgard of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sandra (Dennis) Sprock or Rock Rapids, and Shiela Cragoe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luraine Smith; sisters, Eva, Peggy, Lena, and Rose; and brothers, Joe, Mike, Paul, and Eddy.
