(February 13, 1939 - July 9, 2013)

George, Iowa - Dorothy “Dot” Meyerhoff, age 74 ,of George, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in George.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 13th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa, with Rev. Dr. Paul Soderquist officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Friday, July 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

In lieu of flower the family would like memorials to be presented to: Hope Haven International Wheelchair Ministries.

Dot was born to the late Frank and Dena (Kolkman) Jansma, February 13, 1939 in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa. She graduated from Sibley High School in 1957 and began teaching in Sioux City, Iowa in the fall of 1959. She received a BA in Elementary Education from Northwestern College in 1964.

She married Curt Meyerhoff in July 1962, and they lived together in George for over 50 years. In recent years they also enjoyed spending their winters at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, Texas. Dot was an elementary teacher for the George Community School District for 33 years until she retired in 1999 and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students.

Dot was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George, Iowa, active as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Youth Advisor, Elder (one term as Clerk of Session), Moderator of Presbyterian Women, Librarian, Stephen Ministries leader and Christian Education committee member. She enjoyed spending her time quilting, making Creative Memory photo albums, reading, listening to music and playing pinochle with friends. She volunteered her time with Babes at school, tutored students in Texas (their winter home) and was a babysitter at Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (M.O.P.S.).

Dot is survived by her husband Curt Meyerhoff of George, Iowa; her daughters Jeanne (Malcolm) Peters of Fishers, Indiana and Lori (Brian) Brecht of Grimes, Iowa; four grandsons, Payton Brecht, Brady Brecht, Rory Peters and Liam Peters; one brother Dean Jansma, State College, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Dena (Kolkman) Jansma; four brothers, Fred, Raymond, Henry and Donald; four sisters, Nell Zylstra, Gertrude Bonnes, Henrietta Bosma and Frances Bosma.
