Alfred William Knobloch – December 25, 1928 – June 2, 2005

Alfred W. "Al" Knobloch, 76, died June 2 (2005), in his home at Rock Rapids following an illness with cancer.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday in the Apostolic Christian Church at Lester, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. The Roste Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alfred William Knobloch, son of Emil and Frieda Doerr Knobloch, was born December 25, 1928, at Alvord, Iowa. He grew up near Alvord and attended country school. After his education Al worked for area farmers before entering the United States Army in 1951. During his military service Al was stationed in Germany as a part of the Signal Corps.

November 20, 1954, Al was united in marriage to Lucille (Lucy) Spohr at Elgin, Ill. Following their marriage, Al and Lucy moved to Iowa where they farmed in the Lester area for 35 years. During the winter months, Al worked as a carpenter. For most of his adult life, Al was also a part-time sales person, offering many different products to his customers. In 1986, Al was involved in a motor vehicle accident and following his long recovery he decided to retire from farming. During the next 11 years, Al worked for Lester Feed and Grain and in 1997 he and Lucy moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Al was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church at Lester and was baptized in December of 1965. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. In his free time Al enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and working in their garden along with doing carpentry.

On December 3, 2004, Al was diagnosed with cancer and during the following months he maintained the positive attitude that he had his entire life. Last Thursday evening, June 2 (2005), Al died in his home surrounded by his family.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Lucy, Rock Rapids; six children and their spouses, Ronda and Jim Thielen, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Lola and Dan Deragisch of Eagan, Minn.; Kim and Todd Massner, Mediapolis, Iowa; Carla Knobloch, Rock Rapids; Cameron and Tamara Knobloch, Whittemore, and Penny and Jim Domnick, Morris, Minn. There are 17 grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters and five brothers, Libbie Den Hartog, Shelley, Idaho; Naomi Knobloch, Lester, Iowa; Esther Warner, Rock Rapids; Gilbert, Melvin and William Knobloch, Rock Rapids; Silas Knobloch, Lester and Clyde Knobloch of Mackinaw, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Frieda, along with a daughter, Pamela.
