John Tietjen – June 3, 1863 – May 17, 1925

John Tietjen, for many years a resident of Lester, was buried there in Hillside Cemetery, on Wednesday of last week. Death occurred the preceding Monday, and followed a long illness.

The services for the departed mass were attended by a host of friends and relatives, who brought with them a wonderful floral tribute.

John Tietjen was born at Bramstedt, Germany, June 3, 1863. He came to America in 1881, and for a time made his home in Scott County, Iowa. Later he moved to Lester, this county.

He was married to Dora Wacker, in June 1886. To that union were born five children all of whom survive him. His first wife died March 16, 1913, and two years later, July 14, 1915, he married Mrs. Margaretta Bull.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death; William Wietjen, Brookings, South Dakota; Mrs. Emma Heyer, Gary, South Dakota; Edward Tietjen, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Vera Graham, Hull, Iowa; Mrs. Viola Bull, Lester, Iowa.

He leaves also 12 grandchildren. He leaves seven step-children, as follows; Mrs. Elfrieda Whiteside, Erle, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Hertha Horton, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Hilda Bull, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; John Bull, Lester; Richard Bull, Arlington, South Dakota; Mrs. James Ellis, St. Clou, Florida; Waldo Bull, Lester. He leaves two brothers, one at Bremerton, Washington and one in Germany, also two sisters.
