Larchwood, Iowa - Anna Burkard, age 82 of Larchwood, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 AM, Wednesday, March 20th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, Iowa, with Father Jeff Schleisman officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 19th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a 7:00 PM Vigil service at the church Tuesday night.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood is in charge of services.

She is survived by her husband, Ray of Larchwood, Iowa; two daughters, Virginia (husband, Bill) Scannell of Larchwood, and Helen Burkard of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three sons, Richard (special friend, Elaine Snyders) Burkard of Larchwood, Iowa, Mark (wife Rhonda) Burkard of Omaha, Nebraska, and Bill (wife, Tracy) Burkard of Oacoma, South Dakota.

Larchwood, Iowa - Anna Burkard, age 82 of Larchwood, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 20th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Jeff Schleisman officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 19th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a 7:00 PM Rosary and Vigil service at the church Tuesday night.

Anna Marie (Scholten) Burkard was born on May 31, 1930 near Alvord, Iowa, to John and Alieda (Lens) Scholten. She moved with her family to the Larchwood family farm, and attended Logan Township Country School. She later graduated from the South Dakota School of Hairstyling.

On February 10, 1953 Anna was married to Ray Burkard of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. The date was special as both of their parents were married on February 10, 1925. Anna and Ray farmed together in the Dell Rapids and Colman, South Dakota, areas, before purchasing the family farm from Anna’s parents in 1962. Together they raised five children. In 1993 Anna and Ray moved to their current home in Larchwood.

Anna is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray Burkard; daughter, Virginia and husband Bill Scannell, son Richard Burkard and special friend, Elaine Snyders, all of Larchwood; daughter, Helen Burkard of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; son, Mark and wife, Rhonda Burkard, and their children, Brett and Courtney, all of Omaha, Neb.; son, Bill and wife, Tracy Burkard, and their sons, River and Canyon, all of Oacoma, So. Dak.; sisters, Mary Kearney of Sioux City, Iowa and Rose and husband, Dale Carman of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., brothers, George and wife, Donna Scholten of Luverne, Minn., John and wife, Dorothy Scholten of Dell Rapids, So. Dak., and Clete and wife, Shirley Scholten of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; sisters-in-law, Sharon Scholten of Waukee, Iowa, Arliss Scholten of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., and Sandy Scholten of Hardwick, Minn.; brother-in-law, Dick Tuschen of Salem, So. Dak.; and many other extended family.

She was preceded in death by parents, John and Alieda Scholten; her grandchildren, Anne, John, and Mary Ranschau; her sisters, Theresa Schettler, Dorothy Schettler, Irene Soldatke, Betty Wall and Veronica Tuschen; and her brothers, Joe Scholten, Ray Scholten, Paul Scholten, Larry Scholten, and two infant brothers.

She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She kept the faith.
