Funeral services for Sheryl Helmers, age 67, of Sibley, were held on Saturday, October 25, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Reverend William Flemr officiating. Interment was held at the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. The Walton-Roste Funeral Home in Sibley was in charge of the arrangements.

Sheryl Rae Helmers was born June 26, 1936, in George, the daughter of Henry and Lucille (Willemssen) Blumeyer. She was raised and attended school in the George and Sibley area,
graduating from Sibley High School 1954.

On June 27, 1954, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Helmers at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. Except for a brief relocation associated with her husband’s military service, Sheryl lived in the Sibley area. They moved to the family farm in 1957.

Sheryl enjoyed sewing, craftwork and genealogy activities. She was involved in Sibley School activities and her enthusiasm and support was rewarded with fan of the year in 2003. She was
also a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

On October 21, 2003, Sheryl passed away peacefully in Sibley at the Country View Manor.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Lawrence, of Sibley, and her children and their spouses: Timothy and Theresa Helmers of Sibley, Laurilyn Helmers and Kirk Manske of Coralville, Todd and Linda Helmers of Spirit Lake, and Thomas Helmers of Lakewood, Colorado. She is also survived by five grandchildren who brought her much joy and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
