Obituary--

Jerry Hoekstra, age 54, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. A funeral service will held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Doon Protestant Reformed Church with Rev. David Overway officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Doon. Visitation with family present will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, February 13, 2012 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Jerry was born November 23, 1958 at Sioux Center, Iowa, son of John P. and Lucille (Gorter) Hoekstra. He grew up near Doon and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1976. Jerry married Arlis Stellinga on August 5, 1982 in Doon. Together, they lived near Doon on the homestead where Jerry farmed. He had been a Protestant Reformed School board member and a Deacon at the Protestant Reformed Church. Jerry enjoyed tinkering with tractors and old equipment, reading material about his faith and occupation, and most of all, he enjoyed raising his family and teaching them about the Lord.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Arlis; children, Travis of Hull, Iowa, Ashley, Cody, and Jordan all of Doon; mother, Lucille Hoekstra; brothers, Rev. Clifford (Linda) Hoekstra of Sioux Center, Iowa, Leonard (Deb) Hoekstra of Rock Valley, Steven (Susan) Hoekstra of Doon.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, John P. Hoekstra.
