Delbert Dean Bauer – May 4, 1927 – May 6, 2008

CASPER , WYOMINA - Christian funeral services for Delbert D. Bauer, 81, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Holthus officiating.

Internment will be in Highland Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Bustards

He died on May 6, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center.

He was born May 4, 1927, in Inwood, Iowa, to Carl and Lula (Johnson) Bauer.

He served his country in the U.S. Army following WW II, and was stationed in Germany as a tank commander for the Army of Occupation.

He married Vera A. Haupt on Feb. 1, 1946, at Luverne, Minn.

His talent as a heavy equipment operator took he and his family to many Midwestern towns and cities.

He worked on dam projects and interstate and road projects across South Dakota, Kansas, Colorado.

The family moved to Wyoming in 1959.

Wyoming developing industries offered him opportunities to work on various power plant projects, uranium mines and interstate and road projects around the state.

On family road trips, he was proud to tell his children, "Your dad helped build this."

Following a construction job in Escandido, Calif., he and his wife returned to Casper, to be near their children.

He was forced to leave the construction industry he enjoyed for many years due to the onset of rheumatoid arthritis.

They retired in 1989.

He had an interest in writing poetry, especially to express his faith. He had a wonderful memory and could recite poems and other writings.

His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by his family.

When in better health, he enjoyed working with wood in his garage.

He openly welcomed visitors into his home with a smile.

He enjoyed meaningful conversation.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, children and their spouses, Randy of Hayward, Calif., Deanna Long, Gary, Leonard, and David, all of Casper; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin of Norfolk, Neb., Glen of Larchwood, Iowa, James of Salem, S.D.; and sisters, Helen Hilgenburg, Karen Hansen, Kathy Bauer, all of Mitchell, S.D.; Shirley Heumiller of Montrose, S.D.; Dorothy Wagner, Virginia Eldeen both of Spencer, S.D. and Carla Eldeen of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Junior, Rolland, Dean; and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1240 S. Missouri, Casper, WY 82609.
