LEONHARD BERG DIES HERE AT 91; LAST RITES TODAY

Funeral services for Leonhard Berg, 91, who died here Thursday night, were held Monday at 2 pm at Immanuel Lutheran church in Rock Rapids, with the Rev SJ Meyer officiating.

Dalbert Newborg was soloist at the services, accompanied at the organ by Mrs Richard Eder. Pallbearers were grandsons: Verlyn Berg, Duane Berg, Donald Berg, Alvin Dengler, Melvin Kahl and Robert Wennenghoff. Burial was in Riverview cemetery with Lockwood-Jongewaard funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widow; seven children: Leonard H of Luverne; Mrs Otto (Laura) Dengler of Rock Rapids; Mrs Walter (Louise) Kahl of Rock Rapids; Peter, Adolph and Rudolph, all of Rock Rapids; and Mrs Charles (Velma) Wennenghoff of OMaha, Nebr; 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Leonhard Berg was born in Kiel, Germany on June 7, 1868. He was the son of John and Katherine Berg. Mr Berg came to the United States at the age of 14.

He was married to Metta Meyers on Jan 24, 1900, and the couple would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary this coming January. They were the parents of eight children-one of whom, Amanda, preceded him in death.

The Bergs farmed until 1938, when they retired and moved to Rock Rapids.
