VIRGIL REEMTS, 77

Worthington, Minnesota - Virgil H. Reemts, age 77, of Worthington, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

He was born on July 22, 1935 in Lyon County, Iowa to parents, John (Jack) and Susie (Meester) Reemts.

He attended Central Lyon School in Rock Rapids. After his schooling he served his nation during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. He served as a Petty Officer Third Class on the USS Benner from 1954 to 1958. After the service he returned to Rock Rapids and was employed with the city light plant, where he met his future wife.

On July 22, 1959, he was united in marriage to Peggy Clercx in Rock Rapids. To this union three children were born, Dawn, Gay and Melody. After his marriage Virgil worked for Terrace Park Dairy as a milkman. In 1968 the couple moved to Worthington and Virgil worked for Old Home Bread for 27 years as a route salesman. After retiring from Old Home Bread, he worked for the Worthington Parks Department for 15 years and was a van driver for the Worthington School District.

On August 9, 2008, he was united in marriage to Mary Deters and the couple made their home in Worthington.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, Men’s Club, VFW, American Legion, Elk’s Lodge, and Cooties Post #30. Virgil enjoyed family and friends, his Red Mustang Convertible, many pets over the years including the last pet, “Lacey”, flowers, gardening, cooking, camping, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Reemts, Worthington; three children: Dawn (Mike) Ling, Ames, Iowa; Gay Harberts, Sioux City, Iowa; Melody (Gary) Ailts, Rushmore, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Amber Roberts, David Ling, Christina Ling, Andrew Harberts, Lynn Harberts, Travis Ailts, Keith Ailts, four great-grandchildren, Jason Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Camden Harberts, Zander Harberts, brothers, Vernon (Doug) Reemts, El Mirage, AZ; and Harold (Fern) Reemts, Sayre, OK; and a sister, Laura (Dick) Mattoon, Ankeny, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Duaine and Jeannette Clercx, Rock Rapids, Iowa and a special Navy friend, Larry Witters; step children, Karen (Steve) Lounsbery, Kim (Jim) Seiler, Sheila (Mark) Jesse and Ben (Jessica) Aning; step grandchildren, Ashley, Dustin, Tyler, Lane, Allison, Kayla, Dominic and Zach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Peggy on December 12, 2006, and father and mother-in law, John and Mary Clercx.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 PM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will also be an hour prior to the service at the church.

The service will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington with the Pastor Gordon Orde officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worthington. To send condolences or flowers please visit www.dingmannandsons.com.
