Landlord Rice proprietor of the hotel up at Doon died last Friday aged seventy years. He had been an invalid for years. Rice was one of the oldest settlers of Lyon County, had served as a member of the board of supervisors, and was the first post master of Doon.

For twenty five years he was proprietor of the Bonnie Doon Hotel, and was known and highly respected by the traveling public throughout the northwest. He leaves an aged widow.

In the 1900 census of Doon Lyon County, Iowa. He is listed as Henry D. Rice, born Aug. 1831, New York, with wife Sarah Rice, born Nov. 1832, in New York.

In a family history found on ancestry.com, information given by others - Henry Danforth Rice born 17 Aug. 1832, New York, son of Thomas Rice, (1795-1859) and Selina Billings, (1801-1886), married Sarah E. Barton on 17 Aug 1859. In this account, Sarah E. Barton was born in 1835 in Vermont.
