Obituary:

Doon, Iowa - Shirley Kopsas, 74, of Doon, died Monday May 7, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota after bravely fighting an 8 year battle with lymphoma.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church at Doon. Burial at Hillside Cemetery, Doon. Rev. Steve Swenson will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present 6-8 pm Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Shirley Jean Berg was born March 5, 1933 at Rock Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Rudolph and Helen (Vogel) Berg. After graduating high school, Shirley worked at Bob's Grocery at Rock Rapids.

Shirley married Louie Kopsas on April 4, 1954 at Rock Rapids. In 1955, Louie and Shirley moved to Doon, where Shirley was a cook at the Central Lyon School at Doon. She later worked for Tyson Foods at Sioux Center. Shirley was an avid gardener and cook, and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all their activities. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at their cabin on Big Spirit Lake. Shirley's courage and faith during her long illness was a great inspiration to her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Louie Kopsas, Doon; daughter, Angie (Jerry) Keizer and children, Kara (Chris) Van Meeteren, Paul Keizer and his fiance April Hericks and Jeremy Keizer all of Hull, Iowa; son, Jim (Mary Ellen) Kopsas and daughter Diana all of St Louis, Missouri ; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Whitney, Jace; 2 brothers, Verlyn (Virginia) Berg and Doug (Mary) Berg all of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sister, Marlys (Henry) Lesperance of Harrisville, New York.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
