Doon, Iowa -- Clarence VanDenBerg, 90, of Doon, Iowa, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Doon with Rev. Don Baker officiating. Burial will be held prior at Hillside Cemetery west of Doon. Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2012 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with family present from 5:00 -- 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Clarence VanDenBerg was born on a farm southwest of Sioux Center, Iowa on March 13, 1922, son of William and Anna (Juffer) VanDenBerg. Clarence married Lois Ann Whaley on July 13, 1947 in Killeen, Texas. Clarence proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II from January 1943 to May 1946. From Texas, they moved to Sioux Center, Iowa and later to Doon, Iowa in 1956 where they operated the Doon Feed and Produce.

Later Clarence became a partner in the Doon Elevator Company until retiring in 1984. Fishing, hunting and traveling were some of Clarence's favorite things to do. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Doon and served as an elder and deacon at different times.

Clarence is survived by his two sons, Gary VanDenBerg and his wife Lori of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Jeff VanDenBerg and his wife Laurel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and two grandchildren, Chad VanDenBerg of Los Angeles, California and Jill VanDenBerg of Des Moines, Iowa. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna VanDenBerg; wife, Lois VanDenBerg and three brothers, Gary VanDenBerg, Teddy VanDenBerg, and Alvin VanDenBerg.
