Larchwood, Iowa -- Donald Francis Ahlers, age 34 of Longmont, Colorado, and formerly of Larchwood, Iowa, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 from injuries sustained in an accident at Westminster, Colorado.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 6th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood.

Don was born August 8, 1977 in Larchwood, Iowa, the son of Pamela (Dahlberg) and David Ahlers. He was raised in Larchwood, Iowa, attended West Lyon in Inwood, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, So. Dak. He attended Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. and took additional classes at an Art Institute in Minneapolis, Minn.

Don, or Francis to some, lived life to the fullest every day. Don was unexpectedly born at home, which began a life of distinction. He enjoyed drawing and painting which portrayed his unique style to show his own view of the world. Don enjoyed all kinds of music, in addition to singing with bands and attending local concerts. He took special joy in shocking people with his different style of fashion, art, and music. Don had an exceptionally generous heart and would have given the shirt off of his back for a complete stranger. He lived and worked at various places in Minneapolis, Minn., for 11 years (1998-2009), before moving to Longmont, Colorado, for the last 3 years (2009-2012). He loved working on cars, especially Ferrari's, at Details Plus Auto Salon in Boulder, Colordo.

He is survived by his mother, Pamela Ahlers of Larchwood, Iowa; three siblings, Bonnie (Ben) Shinn of Harrisburg, So. Dak., Bill Ahlers of Larchwood, Iowa, and, Julie (Jeremy) Moser, of Des Moines, Iowa; two nephews and one niece, Jackson Moser, and Declan and Vera Shinn; Grandmother, Betty Dahlberg of The Dalles, Oregon; and several loving aunts uncles, cousins and a wealth of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Ahlers; three grandparents, Albert Sr. & Syra Ahlers and Donald Dahlberg; and ten aunts and uncles.

Donald was loved by many and will be sorely missed. The world has lost an irreplaceable soul.
