Obituary: Kaitlyn Heyden, 11, of Inwood, Iowa, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Covenant Church in Larchwood, Iowa..

Kate Heyden was born on January 18, 2001, the daughter of Heath and Jill Heyden and Lisa Sanchez. Kate spent her first few years in Inwood before moving to the Caribbean Islands for a year, Ames, Iowa for three years, and then settling back in Inwood the last couple of years.

She attended West Lyon school and would have been entering the 6th grade this fall. Kate was a very vibrant little girl that loved life. She could light up a room and brought happiness to so many people. She cherished the fact that she shared a birthday with Aunt Stacey and was a flower girl in 10 different weddings.

Kate (Kate-a-rooni) had many "adopted" aunts and uncles that played a very important part in her life. She loved making forts in Grandma Karen and Grandpa Vic's grove, camping, and playing in the creek. She enjoyed making silly videos and watching princess movies with cousin Randi and shopping with her "other" moms, Jamee, Stacey, and Jill. Kate spent many hours with Summer taking pictures of anything and especially enjoyed her vacation collecting sea shells and sea glass with Kalie, Lauren, Grandma Sue and Grandpa Kurt. She loved scrap booking at Jamee's house and also at mom's house in Minneapolis. She also enjoyed making up nicknames like "Uncle" Chad.

Kate shared her Grandpa Vic's love for marshmallow cake and skinny pancakes and always requested her mom's homemade egg rolls. Kate's greatest loves were riding horse with her family and friends, and spending time with Grandma Karen, but most of all, her joy came from making up songs and having special talks with her best friend and mentor, her dad. One of Kate’s proudest moments came when spending time at Reecy’s where she put in more hours on the saddle than her dad did one day.

Those left to honor Kate’s memory are her parents, Heath and Jill Heyden of Inwood; mother, Lisa Sanchez of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters, Evan Heyden and Myah Carver; brother, Dylan Carver; grandparents, Vic and Karen Heyden of Larchwood, Jill Gascon of Norwalk, Iowa and Kurt and Sue Weinheimer of North Evans, New York; aunts, Jamee (Jeremy) Childress, Stacey (Justin) Breitkreutz, Lauren Weinheimer, Kalie Weinheimer, and Summer Weinheimer; uncles, Chad (Jill) Heyden and Mike Gascon; great-grandpa, Lyle Heyden and his friend Arlene; great-grandma, Tracy Dieters and many special cousins, Randi, Bryson, Kacen, Kyler, Chance, Brecken, Slayton, Jaiden, Tristan, Alex, Jenna, Austin and Madden.

Kate was preceded in death by her great-grandma, Lois Heyden and great grandpa, Carl Dieters.
