Joan M. Hansmann, age 75, of George, IA, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 2nd, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, IA with Rev. Tony Metz officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Joan Marie Hansmann was born September 12, 1936 near George, IA the daughter of Ida (Schoonhoven). She was raised near George and attended Country School and graduated from George High School. She was baptized at Zoar Presbyterian Church.

On February 14, 1956 she was united in marriage to Marlyn Hansmann at Zoar Presbyterian Church. She later joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived on the family farm north of George. The couple was blessed with four children. Marlyn passed away in 1984 and Joan moved to town in 1988. After Joan’s children were raised and gone from home she began working and held several positions in the community including the Tarko Doll Company and cleaning at the George State Bank. She enjoyed her retirement keeping up with family and friends.

Just a few months ago, Joan moved from her home in George to Premier Estates in Rock Rapids. As a result of declining health, she moved to Good Samaritan Center in George. This past Monday Joan passed away at the hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 75. She loved her church and she loved her family dearly. She enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren very much. Her grandchildren will always remember the many cards and letters she wrote to them. She will be greatly missed.

Joan is survived by son, Darvin (Karel) Hansmann of Thornton, CO; daughters, Marla (Randy) Van Briesen of George, IA and Debra Allen of Sheldon, IA; and son, Mark (Darcy) Hansmann of George, IA; 10 grandchildren, Jason and Jared Hansmann, Adam, Nathan and Mitchell Van Briesen, Kristin and Kayla Allen, Dana, Emily and Joshua Hansmann; and great-grandson, Jaxson Hansmann.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Schoonhoven; her husband of nearly 30 years, Marlyn; special aunt, Tillie Schoonhoven; father-in-law, Alfred Hansmann; mother-in-law, Alvina Hansmann and sister-in-law, LaVonne Molitor.
