Kathryn "Katie" Krahling

(February 1, 1921 - May 29, 2012)

George, Iowa - Kathryn "Katie" Krahling, age 91, of Ashton, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa.

A funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, George, Iowa, with Rev. Tony Metz officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near George.

Kathryn Francess Krahling, or "Katie" as she was known, was born February 1, 1921, in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Millard and Maria (Greenfield) Botsford. She lived with her parents on the Antone Body farm near Matlock, Iowa. The family moved from Iowa to a Minnesota farm where her sister, Marie was born.

She began school in Adrian, Minnesota. The family did move back to George, Iowa where her brother Thomas was born. She became a very responsible little girl and helped to raise her sister and brother after her mother’s early passing during her 5th grade in school. Katie became very close to her Lord through this experience, had many friends and graduated from George High School in May of 1938.

On June 5, 1939, Katie was married to William Arthur Krahling, "Bill" at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage in George, Iowa. Here the couple worshiped during their lifetime. They began their new married life living in George, Iowa. Katie was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver to many. The couple moved to the Adam Krahling farm until they began farming near Ashton, Iowa.

In 1946 they bought their own farmland in S.E. Lyon County. It was here they worked toward their goals in life.

They raised two children, Marion and William, and they welcomed their grandchildren during their lifetime on the farm. Katie was an excellent farm wife and wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was dedicated to the love and well-being of her family. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years; she and Bill were Luther League sponsors, also.

She was known for being an excellent seamstress; Katie and her sister, Marie, created many lovely wedding dresses for their daughters. Later, during retirement, she enjoyed golfing, camping, but mostly loved to be with her family. She took each one to them to the bridge to see the beauty of the creek near their farm. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Marion (Jerry) Roetzel of Ashton, Iowa, and William (Loretta) Krahling of Forest City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Daniel Roetzel, Jennifer (Daniel) Conaway, Tim Krahling and ( Kara Dahle) special friend, Sara Krahling, Bryan (Ruth) Anderson, Rita Weaver, and Alissa (Robert) Clausen; 12 great-grandchildren, Dallas Ransom and (Emily Prins) significant other, Tristan Roetzel, Olivia Conaway, Jace Conaway, Victoria Kissima, Sarah Wohlert, Avree Anderson, Makenna Anderson, Kaitlyn Krones, Jackson Weaver, Rozlynn Weaver, and Berlin Clausen; brother Jim (Carol) Botsford; and two sisters, Pat (Bob Metcalf) and Betty Drey.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; two grandchildren, Nancy Roetzel and David Roetzel; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Louis Hollander; and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Botsford.

Blessed be her memory.
