George, Iowa

LaVerle "Lucky" Schilling, age 59, of George, IA died Monday, October 3, 2011, suddenly at home near George.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 6th at Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA, with Reverend Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Little Rock, IA.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

LaVerle Duane Schilling was born on October 28, 1951, the son of Louis and Mildred (Heikes) Schilling in Rock Rapids, IA. He attended and graduated from the Little Rock High School and later attended Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, IA. On September 16, 1972, he was united in marriage to Donna Boltjes. LaVerle and Donna lived in Spencer, IA from 1973 to 1974, Adrian, MN from 1974-1978 and George, IA from 1978 to the present. To this union three children were born, Aimee, Valerie and Troy.

LaVerle did auto body work while living in Spencer, IA and George, IA for a time. While living in Adrian, MN he owned and operated an auto body shop and also farmed. He worked as a jailer at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department for five years; worked for the Farmer’s Coop Society for seven years and was presently working for Sudenga’s.

LaVerle’s hobbies included collecting teapots (anything unusual), woodworking and refinishing furniture. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When it came to the end of his families’ visits and they would say their "goodbyes", he would always remind them that it’s not "goodbye" it’s "see you later".

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of thirty-nine years, Donna Schilling of George, IA; three children, Aimee (Gary) Clarke of Fulda, MN, Valerie (Bryce) Mortenson of Harrisburg, SD and Troy (Comfort) Schilling of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren, Taylor, Brody, Carson, Dane, Ben, Alex, Hayden, Logan and Olivia; his mother, Mildred Schilling of Little Rock, IA; two siblings, Ervis (Ruth) Schilling of Adrian, MN and Lois Jordan of Northglenn, CO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Schilling; paternal and maternal grandparents; father-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
