Katie Ver Beek, 91, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Centennial Hospice Cottage.

Services were Monday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, with interment in Richland Cemetery, Inwood.

Katie Bajema was born April 18, 1912, in Rock Valley, the daughter of John and Bessie (Vander Stoep) Bajema. She grew up and attended school in Rock Valley.

On Sept. 30, 1932, she married Al Ver Beek in Rock Valley. They farmed near Rock Valley before moving to a farm near Inwood. In 1973, they moved into Inwood and to Sioux Falls in 1987. They became residents of Dow Rummel Village in 1989.

Her husband died Aug. 23, 1995.

Survivors include one son, Cliff of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Betty) DeRaad and Mrs. Merlyn (Vonnie) Mellegaard, both of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Otto of Grand Rapids, Mich., and three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Edith) Blankespoor of Inwood and Ella Vander Lugt and Mrs. Ed (Anna) Viening, both of Grand Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Alvin; infant son, Kenneth; one brother, Willis, and two sisters, Flora and Francis.
