(October 23, 1929 - March 15, 2012)
Lucy Kix, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Thursday March 15, 2012 at Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Pastor Dan Haggar and Pastor Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Lucy Kix was born October 23, 1929 in rural Edgerton, MN to Gerrit and Jennie (Christoffels) Vanden Heuvel. As a young child her family moved to Rock Rapids where she was raised and received her education. She was united in marriage to Harold Kix on March 17, 1952 in George, IA. To this union two daughters were born, Pam and Janet.

Lucy worked over 30 years for JC Penney’s in Rock Rapids retiring only when the store closed. She was very fond of the Precious Moments series and over the years amassed an impressive collection. Lucy loved to knit, especially making baby sweaters and slippers. Her family will cherish the items she had made for each of them. She was a wonderful mom and grandma and her family will miss her greatly. Harold and Lucy enjoyed camping.

She and Harold were snowbirds in Arizona for 18 years and spent their final winter there only two years ago. They also enjoyed golfing as well as playing cards with friends. Lucy was a member of the First Reformed Church.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Harold; her daughters, Pamela (Thomas) Tille of Rock Rapids, and Janet (Brian) Bartscher of Tea, SD; six grandchildren, Heath (Angela) Tille of River Falls, WI, Bradley (Jill) Tille of Harrisburg, SD, Robert (Gwen) Tille of Brandon, SD, and Eric (Jessica) Tille of Harrisburg, SD; Amanda Bartscher and Emily Bartscher, both of Tea, SD; 9 great-grandchildren, Braden, Meredith, Lucille, Brooklyn, Lauren, Alex, Emma, Madeline and Brody; sisters, Mary Ann Sipma of Hull, IA, Jeannette Brouwer of Rock Rapids and Bernice Van Eldik of Sioux City, IA; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Vanden Heuvel of Rock Rapids and Grace Vanden Heuvel-Dayton of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
