John "Bud" Kruger, 84, of Pipestone, Minnesota, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at Pipestone County Medical Center, Pipestone.

Services were Friday at Skandia Evangelical Free Church, rural Balaton, Minn., with interment in First Baptist Cemetery, rural George.

Mr. Kruger was born June 5, 1919, in Lyon County, the son of John and Etta (Janssen) Kruger. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He worked different jobs, mostly as a farm hand, and served in the army during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to the farm.

On June 1, 1946, he married Helen Schneidermann. They lived and farmed near Rushmore, Minn., and two years later they purchased a farm southeast of Ruthton. They were dairy farmers until retiring in 1993 and moving into Ellsworth, Minnesota. In 2002, he became a resident of Parkview Nursing Home, Ellsworth, and in 2003 he transferred to Good Samaritan Communities, Pipestone.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Eldon of Slayton, Minnesota; Harlan of Corvallis, Oregon, Kelvin of Sunol, Calif., Roger of Newark, Calif., and Jon of Marshall, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Karen) Strom of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Mrs. Bob (Teresa) Heard of Ward, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ira, Merle and Donald, all of George, and Arvin DeBerg of Belding, Michigan, and one sister, Katie Petersen of Greenville, Michigan.
