Keith Lee Meyerhoff was born on July 28, 1963, in Luverne, Minnesota. He was the son of Harry and Aleida (Dreesen) Meyerhoff. He lived his youth in George where he attended George Elementary School. During middle school, Keith’s family moved to Clinton, Missouri. The family moved back to George and Keith graduated from George High School.

Keith was a Boy Scout and was proud to be honored the Eagle Scout Award. After high school, he attended Iowa Lakes Community College.

Keith was united in marriage to Caroline Gacke of Rock Rapids, Iowa, on May 24, 1986, in Rock Rapids. They lived in rural George where Keith farmed. He was always a hard worker. Along with farming, Keith worked for DGR, Sudenga Industries, Siebring Manufacturing, George-Little Rock Community School, George Dairy and Culligan.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa. Keith was strong in his faith. He loved his parish family and was very grateful for all their prayers and support. During Mass, Keith enjoyed seeing the children’s faces when he would share his suckers with them. He could always count on their smiles and nods of encouragement to help lift his spirits.

Keith’s family meant the world to him. Keith was very proud of his three girls. His biggest worry was that he would not teach them all that they needed to know before his time was done.

After six years of battling Multiple Myeloma Cancer with many complications, Keith became pain free. He died on Friday, December 30, 2011, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Keith was courageous in his battle and has chosen to continue his fight by donating his body to science for research. He touched the lives of many in his own unique way. Keith’s words of advise, teachings, and positive attitude will never be forgotten.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 25 years, Carol Meyerhoff of George, Iowa; three daughters: Kathleen Anne "Katie" and husband Pat Berger of McCook Lake, South Dakota, Christina Marie "Christie" Meyerhoff at home in George, Iowa, Karissa Lynn "Karrie" Meyerhoff at home in George, Iowa; his mother, Aleida Meyerhoff of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; mother-in-law, Catherine Gacke of Rock Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Brenda and husband Doug Medalen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and their children: Lee and Heather, Arla Shultz of Ellsworth, Minnesota, and her children: Aaron, Adam and Amanda; along with many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
