The Rev. William Martin, 87, of George died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at George Good Samaritan Center.

Services were Wednesday at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, rural George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

The Rev. Martin was born March 18, 1915, at Henry, Ill., the son of Leroy and Lottie (McClure) Martin. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill., received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, where he met his future wife, Frances Harms.

He served Presbyterian congregations in Aplington, Marion, S.D., Dubuque and College Springs. For several years he managed Presbyterian Press and University of Dubuque Book Store. When he retired, the couple moved to George where he served as interim pastor at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church and Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He became a resident of George Good Samaritan Center in 1995.

His wife died in 1999.

He was a past member of the George Library Board.

Survivors include one son, David of Stillwater, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Sharon) Hebel of Bandon, Ore.; two granddaughters; one great-grandson and one brother, Charles of Mountain Home, Ark.
