Herbert Johnson, 95, of Media, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, of complications resulting from a fall.

Services were Sept. 3 at First United Methodist Church, Media, with interment in Media Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 23, 1908, in Doon. He received BA, MS and PhD degrees in chemistry from the University of Iowa. In 1937, he became a research chemist in the research and development department of Sun Oil Co. He was the inventor of more than 44 U.S. and foreign patents relating to petroleum processes and products.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Media 58 years. In his 48 years with Boy Scouts, he received Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award and was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Legislature for his service to youth.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; three sons, Richard of Carrollton, Texas, Thomas of Weston, Conn., and Robert of Chester Springs, Pa.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Horace "Jack" of Doon and Robert of Inwood, and one sister, Mildred Schipper of Baltimore, Md.
