RODNEY J. MULDER
July 6, 1942---- September 21, 2010.

Rodney J. Mulder went home to be with his Lord, forever free from pain and affliction, on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.

Born in Doon, Iowa on July 6, 1942, Rod graduated from Calvin College (BA), Michigan State University (MA), and Western Michigan University (Ph.D. and MSW). Dr. Mulder is perhaps best known as a faculty member from the French, sociology, and social work departments at Grand Valley State University during a tenure that lasted 44 years.

In 2008 he retired from his post as the Dean of the College of Community and Public Service after 15 years as a dean of the School of Social Work and the College of Community and Public Service. Dr. Mulder was an admired professor, colleague, dean, therapist, and activist who fought social injustice and impacted thousands of lives.
Rod is survived by Lu, his loving wife of 46 years, his children, Michael (Melissa), Robert Troy (Janna), and Cray Mulder.

His greatest earthly joy came from his seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, April, Adam, Brandi, Katherine, Margaret, and Madison. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is also survived by his siblings, Merle (Rosalyn) Mulder, Ray (Nancy) Mulder, Sheryl (Walt) VanderWaal, and Lu’s siblings, John (Pat) Timmerman,Miriam (Steven) Lilley, LC (Lynn) Timmerman. He also leaves an extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
