Obituary: Doon, IA: Edward Van Maanen, 85, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Memorial Service will be 2 pm Tuesday at United Reformed Church in Doon. Private family burial at Hillside Cemetery prior to service. Rev. Simon Lievaart officiating. Visitation Monday until 4 pm at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley and continue with family present 6-8 pm at United Reformed Church in Doon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Haven or Doon Christian School.

Ed was born August 27, 1926 near Hull, IA, son of Evert and Maggie (Mulder) Van Maanen. Ed married Alyda Kraayenbrink on January 13, 1947. Together they farmed in Minnesota and later near Doon. Alyda died October 9, 1981.

He married Christine Jansen DeZeeuw on November 15, 1982. They made their home near Doon. Ed was an Elder at the United Reformed Church in Doon and served on the Doon Christian School Board.

Ed is survived by his wife, Christine; 4 sons, Everret (Hedy) Van Maanen of Doon, Marvin (Melinda) Van Maanen of Doon, Randy (Sue) Van Maanen of Oshkosh, WI, Brad Van Maanen of Rock Valley; 3 daughters, Joan (Marvin) Post of Doon, Mary Ann (Earl) DeBey of Rock Valley, and Linda (Bruce) Kooima of Rock Valley; step-son, Lyle (Helen) DeZeeuw of Rock Valley; step-daughters, Dianne (Arlo) Van Kley of Rock Valley, Sylvia (Ron) Kiel of Sioux City, IA; step-daughter-in-law, Sandi (Rick) Koldenhoven of Rock Valley; sisters, Margaret Hoekstra and Jane (Henry) Hoksbergen both of Hull; brother-in-law, Ted (Harriet) Hoekstra of Hull; sisters-in-law, Bernice Van Maanen of Sioux Center and Lois Van Maanen of Rock Valley; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Alyda; step-son, David DeZeeuw; siblings, Ella (Andrew) Meendering, Bert Van Maanen, Roy (Grace) Van Maanen, Tom (Gerdena) Van Maanen, Mina Hoekstra, Harold Van Maanen; and brother-in-law, Don Hoekstra.
