George, Iowa, April 25, 2010 Kathryn Habbinga, 78, of George died at her home Sunday, April 25, 2010.

Services were Saturday, May 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

Kathryn Stubbe was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Lyon County, the daughter of Charles and Sophie (Ennenga) Stubbe. She graduated from George High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from Westmar College, Le Mars. She taught country school in Lyon County and at Ellsworth, Minn. She was also a substitute teacher in the George School over 30 years.

On June 21, 1957, she married Lawrence Habbinga. They farmed near George almost 40 years, before moving into George in 1997.

At Immanuel Lutheran Church, she served in many positions, including Sunday School superintendent and treasurer for the church council. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Women’s Club, and museum board member for City of George and Lyon County.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell of Glencoe, Minn., and Dick of Douglasville, Ga.; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Mary) Person of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Henry of New Richmond, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Shirley Stilwell.
