Fredwin (Hans) Ackerman was born January 24, 1921 on a farm near Ashton, Iowa at the home of his parents Edward and Kate (DeVries) Ackerman.

He married Harriet Krull on December 19, 1945 in the home of Hillary Krull. They farmed for many years northeast of George and moved to town upon retirement in 1983. Hans was an active member of First Baptist Church and spent years working with Awana. He devoted many years to the George School Board. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and watching the Twins play baseball. Farming was his passion and it was just in the last year that he fully retired although he could still be seen driving the baler.

Hans died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa at the age of 89 years, five months, and five days.

He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Jolene Ackerman of Greenville, South Carolina; Carrie Ackerman-Rice of Lake Andes, South Dakota; Glenda (Doug) Lenz of George, Iowa; a son Winfred (Deb) Ackerman of George, Iowa; and a daughter-in-law, Christina Ackerman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Also left to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren: Tammie (Tom) Drown; Tanya Lenz; Chad (Sara) Lenz; Fredrick (Jessica), Benjamin, Jennifer and Christopher Ackerman; Mandy (Corey) Storm and Greta Ackerman; a step granddaughter, Peggy Ward; nine great-grandchildren: Talon, Tiffany and Damon Drown; Sage Lenz; Daphne Ackerman; Jaeda, Julia, Hannah and Kaden Storm; three step great-grandchildren: Heather (Aaron) Burton, Tiffany Cherry and Bradley Ward; a brother, Jay (Anna May) Ackerman; a sister, Mable (Ervin) Drenth; and many nieces and nephews.
