Donna Hoogeveen age 77 of Lester, IA died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6th at Bethel Reformed Church in Lester, IA with Rev. Don Baker, officiating.
Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m., Monday at the Bethel Reformed Church in Lester to process for burial in the Hillside Cemetery at Lester, IA.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 5th at Bethel Reformed Church in Lester from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. with the family present from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Donna Lou (Stallenga) Hoogeveen was born September 11, 1933, at Rock Rapids, IA the daughter of Suzanne (Westra) and Pete Stallenga. Donna grew up in the Rock Rapids and Doon area where she attended country school. She also attended Western Christian High School in Hull, IA. As a young lady she helped her family on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Roy Hoogeveen on February 24, 1953, at Rock Rapids, IA. They made their home at Lester.

Donna was a devoted wife and loving mother who kept busy with raising her family. She dearly loved her family. Her grandchildren referred to her as the "Cake Grandma" because of a family tradition to gather at her house after church for fellowship, cake and refreshments. Donna had many special visits with her sisters, Wilma and Eileen. She had a great laugh and sense of humor and could zing you with a good one liner. Music was an important part of her life. She enjoyed playing piano and listening to music. Donna rarely missed an event and over the years she attended many of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s church programs, games, music and drama events. She was a loyal West Lyon Wildcats and Northwestern Raiders Fan.

The Hoogeveen family took a trip up north every year and Donna never missed one. She always enjoyed a good day of fishing and spending time with her family. Donna was an active member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Lester. This past Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, Donna died at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of seventy-seven.

She is survived by her husband, Roy of Lester, IA; their children, Daryl (Polly) Hoogeveen of Kalamazoo, MI; Ronda (Howard) Boote of Lester, IA; Debra (Randy) Mouw of Coupeville, WA; Dean (Judy) Hoogeveen of Hull, IA; Joel (Rachel) Hoogeveen of Sioux Center, IA; Jerry Hoogeveen of Lester, IA; Sheri (Tim) Snyder of Larchwood, IA and Jeff (Missy) Hoogeveen of Lester, IA; 27 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Bouwman of Lester, IA and Eileen Bouwman of Luverne, MN.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Anna; and one brother.
