CLARENCE J. RUTTEN — OWNER OF TRANSFER
AND DRAY BUSINESS IS DEAD AT THE AGE OF 23
Funeral Rites Set Wednesday Morning

Clarence J. Rutten, 23, who purchased the former Byrne Transfer and dray business here within the
last eight months, died Sunday at Sacred Heart hospital after a long illness.

He bought the dray business in January, and several months later became the owner of the transfer and long distance hauling part of the firm after the Harley Byrne family moved to California.

Mr. Rutten was hospitalized shortly after purchasing the transfer line. He had been a hospital patient both here and in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic church, with the Rt. Rev.
J. D. Fisch officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Larchwood.

Friends may call at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Parish rosary will be at
B p.m. that evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutten was born June 21, 1940, at Larchwood. He moved here in 1960 from Rock Valley, and
was employed by Byrne Transfer.

His marriage to Carol Roemen took place Sept. 5. 1959, at Larchwood. His wife and a daughter Kathy of 415 Lombard Road survive. Also surviving are his father Leo Rutten of Larchwood; five brothers, John of Jasper, Minn. Lawrence and Matthew of Sioux Falls, Joseph of Pocatello, Idaho, and Edwin of Larchwood and two sisters, Mrs. Glen Horton of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Kenneth Krejci of Garretson, S. D.

He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers.
