Rock Rapids Woman Dies After Long Period of Ill Health

Funeral services were held in Rock Rapids Sunday afternoon for Mrs. C. Schubert resident of this county for more than a quarter of a century, who died Thursday, after months of ill health. Following the services, which were conducted by Rev. F.H. Mueller at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the remains were taken to Riverview cemetery for interment.

Magdalena Schubert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Toft, was born October 1, 1854 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In early infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church of which church she was a member of until her death. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Christ Schubert, who preceded her in death a little over a year ago.

In 1885 they emigrated to America and first settled at Durant,Iowa. In 1902 they came to Lyon county where they have lived ever since. In 1918 they retired from their farm and moved to Rock Rapids. A year ago this summer their home was destroyed by fire. The shock from the fire seemed also to effect and undermine Mrs. Schubert's health. Since January this year she spent a good share of the time in bed. She grew steadily weaker until pneumonia set in which was the immediate cause of her death. She died on Thursday morning, October 8 at age 77 years and seven days.

She leaves to mourn her death, her children, Lawrence of Rock Rapids, Chris of Lone Pine, Cal., Mrs. Emma McTauge of Highmore, S.D., John of Echo, Minn. and Willie of Rock Rapids; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Wiese and two sons, Jacob and Henry, preceded her in death. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and other distant relatives and friends.
