Mrs. Carsten Smith

Mrs. Carsten Smith (nee Autje Hanken) was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, September 11, 1838. As a girl she came to America and in 1869, in Magaupin county, Illinois, was united in marriage to Mr. Carsten Smith, who preceded her in death two years ago.

For many years Mrs. Smith lived in Doon and vicinity. Several months ago she became ill and on last Wednesday afternoon, May 16, passed away at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 5 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Erwin H. Jahr officiated. Interment was in the Doon cemetery.
